Molecular biosensing systems based on magnetic particles represent a novel approach in which assay steps are controlled and optimized by magnetic forces [see Reenen et al, Lab Chip vol. 14, 2014, pp. 1966-86; and see www.philips.com/magnotech].
We seek two highly motivated students who have (or soon will have) an MSc degree in physics, chemistry, biochemistry and/or biomedical engineering, and who have an interest to develop novel biophysical methods (PhD in Biophysics) and/or biochemical methods (PhD in Biochemistry) to characterize and modulate particle functionality in complex body fluids such as blood plasma.
The two positions are available within the group Molecular Biosensing for Medical Diagnostics (www.tue.nl/mbx). You will work in a team with researchers from Eindhoven University of Technology, Philips Research and the Catharina Hospital, who are collaborating within the IMPULS program.
About the MBx group:
The group Molecular Biosensing for Medical Diagnostics (www.tue.nl/mbx) investigates novel bionano-technologies for molecular biosensing in biological fluids and tissues, for in-vitro and in-vivo applications. The group shares excellent laboratory facilities with the Chemical Biology research group (www.tue.nl/cb) and the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (www.tue.nl/icms). The group has a track record in the development of particle-based technologies for sensing purposes.
About ICMS:
The Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (www.tue.nl/icms) is an interdisciplinary institute at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) which brings excellent researchers from different areas together to promote cross-breeding of ideas across departments and across disciplines. The institute was founded in 2008 and currently has 100 members from the TU/e departments Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering. The institute aims to create and study biologically relevant functional structures with the ultimate goal of understanding the complexity of life.
We are looking for high-level candidates with an MSc degree in physics, chemistry, biochemistry and/or biomedical engineering. You will be employed by Eindhoven University of Technology in the group Molecular Biosensors for Medical Diagnostics (MBx). During the project you will closely collaborate with researchers in the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (ICMS) and in Philips Research.
