About the project
The MyHealthAvatar project assesses the feasibility of developing services to promote the health and wellbeing of patients and citizens. The avatar is described as a personal bag carried by the patient throughout their lifetime that empowers users in their healthcare and is delivered through a combined mobile phone app and online platform. It encourages patients to participate in self-management of their long-term conditions and features self-controlled health and physical activity promotion. MyHealthAvatar encompasses intelligent tools for health risk assessment and provides interactive visualisation of the patient’s data. The app automatically monitors health, physical activity and sedentary behaviour and collects the patient’s steps count, active minutes, sedentary time, locations and movements. It also delivers the patient tips and reminders for healthy behaviours such as suggestions to walk if you have been sitting for too long.
The successful candidate will undertake a research project to assess the feasibility of MyHealthAvatar for improving glucose regulation, increasing physical activity and wellbeing, and reducing prolonged sedentary behaviour in patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Candidate requirements
The applicant will gain experience in the design, conduct and presentation of research relating to the project. Applicants will have a good first degree (minimum of 2:1) in a relevant discipline (e.g. physical activity and health, health psychology, or sport and exercise science).
