PhD Studentship - Rapid Acoustic-based Novelty Detection with Adaptable Hardware Synthesis for Industrial Systems

This is a call for applications for a funded PhD studentship at the School of Engineering, University of Lincoln, in rapid digital signal processing with adaptable hardware synthesis to facilitate real-time novelty detection. The project will use digital signal processing techniques on measurements from strategically-located sensors to develop signatures of normal operation of industrial systems, and subsequently facilitate for real-time novelty detection. In addition to research into new signal processing techniques, the realisation of algorithms on adaptable state-of-the-art digital processing platforms will be required. The selected candidate will have a significant interest/pedigree in one or more of the following: digital signal processing, image processing, intelligent sensing, adaptive control systems, digital hardware implementation, applied mathematics with experimental hardware development, or related disciplines. Candidates should posses a good honours (minimum 2.1) or a Master's degree in an appropriate engineering or related discipline, and be able to demonstrate strong mathematical and analytical skills. Good programming skills and knowledge of Hardware Description Languages will be desirable. The 3-year studentship will cover fees up to the value of standard UK/EU costs, and provide a tax-free stipend of £14,000 per annum. There are further opportunities within the School for the successful candidate to supplement the stipend.
