Project description
A highly motivated, technically skilled applicant with strong written and oral communication skills and experience with fMRI is being sought for this position. Skills in programming and imaging analysis are critical, and experience testing adolescent and/or older adult populations is desirable. The project is part of ongoing research in the Social Brain in Action Laboratory (SoBA Lab), which explores the cognitive and brain systems that underpin our ability to understand and learn from the actions of other people.Â
A key aim of the project will be to address novel questions of how we learn via observation throughout the lifespan through use of behavioural measures (e.g., longitudinal training studies using Xbox Kinect technology) and state-of-the-art functional brain imaging analytical techniques (e.g., multi-voxel pattern analyses). The successful candidate will be encouraged to explore innovative ways of combining behavioural and brain data to systematically evaluate how our ability to learn via observation changes as we age and help devise means to identify at an early stage of learning those who are likely to benefit most from observational training.Â
The SoBA Lab (http://www.soba-lab.com/) is an international research group housed in the School of Psychology at Bangor University, which offers access to outstanding facilities for Social and Cognitive Neuroscience. The university town of Bangor is situated in a beautiful region of North Wales close to the golden beaches of Anglesey and the picturesque peaks of Snowdonia National Park, which provide a stunning natural backdrop to professional activities.
