Details of proposed research:
This is an EPSRC funded consortium project TARF-LCV (Towards Affordable, Closed-Loop Recyclable Future Low Carbon Vehicle Structures – TARF-LCV). A major activity will involve investigating the use of a range of metallic and composite materials for the design of lightweight low carbon vehicle body structures.
The work will involve the areas of:-
a) Computer Aided Design â candidates would ideally come with expertise in Computer Aided Design (structure and surface) and the development of automotive components and systems
b) Computer Aided (Finite Element) Analysis â candidates would ideally come with expertise in non-linear FE Based modelling, including explicit analysis. Â Â
c) Knowledge of Structural Optimisation Techniques – candidates are expected to have experience/knowledge of topology optimisation, Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis and High Performance Computing (HPC) utilisation and software coupling.
Candidate specification
Experience/expertise as detailed above (CAD; FEA; Optimisation)
Expected Qualifications
An Automotive or Mechanical Engineering MSc (Merit) is preferred, however a minimum BEng (2.1) will be considered along with Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering.
