PhD Studentships in Architecture



Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Doctoral Training Grants* are available for research in the following areas:

  • Design research in architecture and urbanism
  • Sustainable architecture, conservation and refurbishment
  • Energy use behaviour and related policy studies
  • Low carbon urban design
  • Spatial, economic analysis of urban land use, transport and other infrastructure
  • Digital visualisation and communication in architecture and urban design
  • Structures, materials and risk in the built environment

* at least two scholarships will be available

The Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge is ranked first overall in the UK for the quality of its research (RAE 2008), with 80% of its research rated as internationally excellent or world-leading. Candidates must have a 1st or 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a relevant architecture, engineering or science discipline. A Masters Degree in a relevant field is also highly desirable. Each studentship is available from October 2013 for a period of three years. Due to funding restrictions the studentship is open to UK students and EU students with settled status in the UK who have been resident in the UK for the previous three years. Remuneration will be at the current EPSRC studentship rate (£13,726 for 2013-14 and increasing in line with EPSRC minimum payment guidance in subsequent years), and all fees will be paid.
