This is an opportunity for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher who would like to develop their scientific skills in a dynamic research environment and has an aspiration to move on to an independent position after their postdoctoral work. You will be working on a BBSRC funded project “Imaging cholesterol metabolic flux and transport underlying brain function”. The specific objective is to develop a mass spectrometry-based imaging platform for the quantitative and structural determination of cholesterol precursors and metabolites brain tissue. Cholesterol is an essential molecule for life. It is synthesised through numerous steps from acetyl-CoA and metabolised to steroid hormones and bile acids. Many of the intermediates in these metabolic pathways are important signalling molecules. This is a collaborative project with Prof Malcolm Clench at Sheffield Hallam University.
