NSF S-STEM Scholarship at Iona University
Applications are now open for the NSF S-STEM Scholarship at Iona University, which offers full tuition coverage for talented STEM students with financial need.
The S-STEM Program supports outstanding students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) Program, this scholarship is available to graduating high school students planning to major in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics, or computer science. Applicants must demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need.
The Iona S-STEM Scholarship provides a combination of scholarships and grants to cover full tuition and program fees. This funding is available for students entering their freshman year at Iona University in the Fall 2025 semester.

Eligibility Requirements for the Iona NSF S-STEM Scholarship
To apply for the Iona NSF S-STEM Scholarship, students must:

Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or an eligible non-citizen.

Commit to declaring a major in one of the targeted STEM areas (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics, or computer science) during their freshman year.

Demonstrate academic talent or potential with a minimum high school math and science GPA of 80/100 (including at least 3-4 years of math, such as Pre-calculus or Calculus, and at least 3 years of science, preferably including senior-year courses).

Submit a statement of intent that expresses a desire to study one of the targeted STEM areas and pursue a career in a STEM field.

Provide at least one letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, guidance counselor, coach, club sponsor, or employer to demonstrate academic potential.

Demonstrate financial need and establish Federal Pell Grant eligibility as determined by the Office of Student Financial Services at Iona University.

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the stated deadline.
Selection Criteria
Applicants will be selected based on:

Academic performance (GPA and coursework in math and science).

Demonstrated financial need (Federal Pell Grant eligibility).

Personal statement outlining their passion for STEM and future career goals.

Letter of recommendation from an educator, mentor, or employer.
Benefits of the Iona University National Science Foundation S-STEM Scholarship

The Iona NSF S-STEM Scholarship covers full tuition and program fees for eligible students.
Additionally, continuing Iona NSF S-STEM Scholars can renew their scholarships each year, provided they:

Maintain financial eligibility and their major in one of the targeted STEM areas.

Achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Participate in NSF S-STEM Scholar cohort activities.

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually by the stated deadline.
Eligibility for renewal will be reviewed each year at the conclusion of the spring semester.
How to Apply
The application process consists of 3 steps:

Submit an Undergraduate application to Iona University.

Complete your FAFSA for Iona University (school code: 002737).

Apply for the S-STEM scholarship by April 15, 2025.
