Good degree in the Physical, Mathematical, Business or Social Sciences?
Interested in solving Cyber Space/Security challenges?
Up to 12 fully-funded studentships for Doctoral Research in Cyber Security
Candidates are invited to apply to the University of Oxfordâs 4-year Cyber Security PhD (DPhil) programme. This new and exciting programme provides a completely new perspective to solving the issues of cyber security by adopting an inter-disciplinary approach.
As the technologies of cyberspace come to inhabit all parts of everyday life, Cyber Security has become everyoneâs problem. We face a growing collection of adversaries who are agile, opportunistic, and increasingly strategic, developing an ecosystem of suppliers involved in delivering elements of attack capability. They seek to defraud consumers, exploit their trust, or invade their privacy; to misappropriate corporate secrets and intellectual property; to disrupt the operation of the state or critical infrastructure.
Holding one of these studentships will allow you to study the problems and opportunities in Cyber Security from many different disciplinary perspectives, to understand the real-world challenges, and to make a contribution to solving some of the most significant problems society faces today.
Applications will be considered from those with degrees at undergraduate (1st or 2:1) and masterâs level (Distinction) and from mature students with relevant interests and experience in a wide range of disciplines: Cyber Security raises research challenges which span computing and social sciences, as well as associated academic areas.
Funding is provided by EPSRC according to usual eligibility rules: Full studentships are available to UK candidates; and Partial studentships (fees only) are available for EU candidates. At present due to funding restrictions we are not able to offer these studentships to international candidates but we do welcome applications from self-funded students. For more details, to ask questions, or to learn how to apply, please contact the âCDT Officeâ at cdt@cybersecurity.ox.ac.uk.
The application deadlines are 10th January 2014 and 14th March 2014. If you are an international candidate and wish to be considered for University funding you must apply by the 10th January deadline. If you are a UK/EU candidate seeking a CDT studentship then you are advised to apply by the 14th March.
