AHRC Doctoral Studentship (PhD) - Archaeology Doctoral Awards Scheme

Programme Closing Date: 7 February 2013

Archaeology forms part of the School of History Classics and Archaeology and we have expertise in later prehistory, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, medieval and historical archaeology. In addition to the University's award-winning library and new archaeological research laboratories, internationally acclaimed archaeological collections are housed in the newly opened £26 million Great North Museum: Hancock, located immediately adjacent to campus. The School also hosts a Centre for Interdisciplinary Artefact Studies to support our hands-on approach to archaeological training and our artefact-based research. Our students also benefit from specialist archaeology archives, including the Gertrude Bell Archive and the Shefton collections for Greek archaeology.

For 2013 entry, Archaeology is able to submit nominations to an open competition across all the University's Block Grant Partnership (BGP) subjects for the award of an additional two AHRC doctoral studentships through the AHRC's Doctoral Awards scheme. This scheme provides studentships to enable students to undertake and complete a doctoral degree (PhD).

Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend to £13,590 (2012/13 rates). Other EU students are eligible for a fees-only award.  To see if you would be eligible for a full or fees only award, please refer to the AHRC's residency eligibility criteria in Annex A of the AHRC Studentship Funding Guide (PDF: 500KB).
