Programme Closing Date: 7 February 2013
Classics and Ancient History forms part of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology  and we have expertise in an extensive range of classical subjects, from ancient history (Greece, Rome, Persia, the Jews), through language and literature (including the New Testament), to philosophy, the history of science and ancient Greek music. We also have strong links with related disciplines such as History, Archaeology, 22and English. We provide our students with excellent research facilities including work stations in the postgraduate suite, first class computing and printing facilities, dedicated teaching space in the Armstrong Building and financial support for conferences and field trips. Through the School of Historical Studies Postgraduate Forum, our students are able to promote their research and develop their own intellectual networks.
For 2013, Classics and Ancient History is able to submit nominations to an open competition across all the University's Block Grant Partnership (BGP) subjects for the award of an additional two AHRC doctoral studentships through the AHRC's Doctoral Awards scheme. This scheme provides studentships to enable students to undertake and complete a doctoral degree (PhD).
Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend of £13,590 (2012/13 rates). Other EU students are eligible for a fees-only award. To see if you would be eligible for a full or fees only award, please refer to the AHRC's residency eligibility criteria in Annex A of the AHRC Studentship Funding Guide (PDF: 500KB)
