Newcastle is a major centre for research in political philosophy. The work of its political philosophers tackles many of the most important issues in the subject, both contemporary and historical. Our students and researchers are based in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology. We provide high quality facilities for all of our postgraduate research students, including: their own (free) laptop; dedicated desk space; and financial support for conferences and field trips.
For 2013 entry, we will be awarding at least one studentship in Political Philosophy through the AHRC's Doctoral Awards scheme. This scheme provides studentships to enable students to undertake and complete a doctoral degree (PhD).Â
Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend of £13,590 (2012/13 rates). Other EU students are eligible for a fees-only award. To see if you would be eligible for a full or fees only award, please refer to the AHRC's residency eligibility criteria in Annex A of the AHRC Studentship Funding Guide (PDF: 500KB).
Eligibility
You should be intending to undertake a PhD in Political Philosophy at Newcastle University in September 2013 and meet the AHRC's student eligibility criteria. Full information on AHRC eligibility criteria can be found in Section 7 and Annex A of the AHRC Studentship Funding Guide (PDF: 500KB). Please note that if you require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK, you will not be eligible for this funding.
