AHRC Doctoral Studentships (PhD) - Digital Media

Programme Closing Date: 7 February 2013

Digital Media in the School of Arts and Cultures looks to develop the creative potential of communicative and interactive technologies. Active research is ongoing in areas relating to live audiovisual performance, artistic data visualization, participatory digital and technological art practice, creative DIY movements, among others. We actively support an approach to the development of creative work that is at once supportive of individual practice and engaged with the social, political and ecological repercussions and context of research. We strongly encourage all research to have a manifestation 'out in the world', along with in-lab sketches and developmental tests.

As part of the School of Arts and Cultures, we offer a broad spectrum of exciting postgraduate research opportunities, including interactive/generative art, digital performance, interaction design, digital film, imaging, and music.  The work of digital media students and researchers is situated at Newcastle University's Culture Lab - a unique interdisciplinary research facility in the heart of Newcastle.

For 2013 entry, we will be awarding at least one studentship in Digital Media through the AHRC's Doctoral Awards scheme. This scheme provides studentships to enable students to undertake and complete a doctoral degree (PhD).

Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend of £13,590 (2012/13 rates). Other EU students are eligible for a fees-only award. To see if you would be eligible for a full or fees only award, please refer to the AHRC's residency eligibility criteria in Annex A of the AHRC Studentship Funding Guide (PDF: 500KB).
