Our students and researchers are based in the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics. The English Literature section has particularly strong research expertise in Renaissance and early modern literature, late Eighteenth-century and Romantic-period studies, Nineteenth-century literature, and modern and contemporary British/American writing, children's literature, film and digital media, memory studies, postcolonial studies and women's writing.
Our students benefit from excellent supervision as well as outstanding, dedicated facilities, including a newly-refurbished computing suite. There is also a diverse and dynamic postgraduate culture.
For 2013 entry, we will be awarding at least five studentships in English Literature (including Film) through the AHRC's Doctoral Awards scheme. This scheme provides studentships to enable students to undertake and complete a doctoral degree (PhD).
Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend of £13,590 (2012/13 rates). Eligibility
You should be intending to undertake a PhD in English Literature (including Film) at Newcastle University in September 2013 and meet the AHRC's student eligibility criteria. Full information on AHRC eligibility criteria can be found in Section 7 and Annex A of the AHRC Studentship Funding Guide (PDF: 500KB). Please note that if you require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK, you will not be eligible for this funding.
