Applications for a three year AHRC studentship are invited from outstanding candidates domiciled in the UK or EU with an interest in legal life histories. The successful applicant will register for a PhD while working on a unique new collaborative project between the LSEâs Legal Biography Project and National Life Stories (the oral history fieldwork charity based at the British Library) which will focus on the lives of Crown Court clerks.  The student will be based in the Law School at LSE which has a vibrant community of PhD students and received the highest ranking in the country in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008. They will be co-supervised by specialists from National Life Stories.
Candidates should have completed an undergraduate and masterâs degree in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate an interest in empirical research or oral histories.Â
For UK residents the studentship will cover tuition fees in full and provide a maintenance stipend of £16,140 per year from the AHRC and £1,000 from the British Library. For EU residents the studentship will cover fees only from the AHRC and £1,000 from the British Library.Â
