Project description
This interdisciplinary project will examine the impact of early-life adversity on DNA methylation and hormonal function in European starlings. It forms part of a larger project on the consequences of early-life adversity for development and adult behaviour. The hormonal component will be carried out in collaboration with Dr Karen Spencer of the University of St. Andrews. The project will involve a mixture of laboratory work and experience working with the birds in the field at our colonies in Northumberland.

Value of the Award and Eligibility
Depending on how you meet the BBSRCâs eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to a full or a partial award. A full award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and an annual stipend of Â£13,590 (2012/13). A partial award covers fees at the UK/EU rate only.

Person Specification
Candidates should have an excellent degree (at least a 2:1) in a suitable area of the life sciences, and have an interest in development or epigenetics.
