Job Summary

This post has been created in light of successful funding from NIHR to create a Health Technologies Cooperative (HTC) in Colorectal Therapies, http://www.nihr.ac.uk/infrastructure/Pages/HTCs.aspx. To support the HTC, funding has been made available from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for a Clinical Research Fellow. The post will be for a fixed period of three years in line with the allocated funding to enable the successful candidate to work towards a higher degree; namely a PhD with the University of Leeds.

The PhD will be focused around the activities of the HTC, the aim of which is to create a national network of clinicians, academics, healthcare providers, commercial partners to facilitate the generation of new and innovative ideas for application as therapies in colorectal disease. The immediate areas of interest to the Leeds HTC are engineering sciences, nanotechnology, and biosensing as applied to colorectal disease. It is anticipated that the successful candidate’s PhD will involve interdisciplinary research bridging these areas of clinical and scientific interest. The work will be supervised by Professor David Jayne (clinical supervisor) and a Professorial colleague(s) from the chosen area of scientific interest. It is anticipated that the candidate will spend 50% of his/her time on Leeds HTC activities and 50% of his/her time on basic scientific research. As part of the Leeds HTC, the candidate will work with a Programme Manager and Clerical Assistant, to build regional and national networks and networking events, and will be responsible to the HTC Clinical Director (Prof David Jayne) and Scientific Director (Prof Anne Neville). The candidate should hold full registration with the General Medical Council. They must have experience in general surgery and be a member of one of the UK’s Royal Colleges of Surgeons. The successful candidate will be awarded an honorary contract with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Clinical Research Fellow (£30,992 - £46,708 p.a.) depending on qualifications and relevant experience. Although due to funding limitations the maximum salary available will be £37,448 p.a.
