Uppsala University welcomes applications to a doctoral student position in sociology, with an emphasis on housing and urban research at the Institute for Housing and Urban research.
The successful candidate is expected to begin on September 1, 2015.

Requirements:
To enter the Ph.D. program basic as well as specific qualification is necessary. To meet the basic qualifications applicants must have a degree at an advanced level, or in any other way have knowledge equal to this. This means that an applicant must have at least 90 credits in sociology, social psychology, sociology of work life, organization, or sociology with specialization in social care in order to be considered (or in any other way have knowledge equal to this). An applicant who prior to July 1, 2007, met the requirements of basic higher education (i.e., who has acquired at least 120 credits or the equivalent to this in Sweden or elsewhere), is also considered to be qualified to apply for the Ph.D. program (until the end of June 2015). To be accepted, the applicant must be deemed to have the capacity to finish the program.

Research plan:
The research plan which should be short; about 2000 words should address the sociological interests that the dissertation will focus on. The plan should briefly review previous research, formulate a research problem and aim, and present the potential theoretical perspectives and methodological point of departure to be used. The applicants will be ranked based on the quality of the research plan and the materials that they submit with their applications. The idea being that the research plan is used not only to test the applicants capacity to structure a research project (in relation to sociological theory and existing research as well as decide on appropriate methods to answer the research questions that the plan poses), but also to get an idea of the applicants research interest. Admission:
The admission will be based on an evaluation of the applicant capacity to successfully finish the program. The evaluation is based on the submitted texts and the research plan. Individual interviews may be used as well.
Economic conditions:
The successful candidate will be awarded employment as doctoral candidate for a full period of four years. Salary will be paid according with the guidelines of Uppsala University.
