The propagation of precessional excitations of ordered spins in magnetic materials – so-called spin waves – in complex micromagnetic landscapes forms basis of magnonics – the recently emerged and rapidly developing field of magnetism. The ultimate idea is to implement spin waves within signal and data processing devices that would be faster, smarter and more energy efficient than those based on semiconductors.
In this project, you will design and predict performance of novel spin wave ("magnonic") devices using advanced numerical modelling tools. The best designs will then be within prototype devices that will be fabricated using advanced lithography tools and tested using microwave measurements and time resolved microscopy.
