Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates for a fully funded PhD studentship within the internationally recognised Internal Combustion Engines Research Group in the Wolfson School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Loughborough University, UK.
The Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is one of the largest and most successful engineering departments in the UK and boasts an established reputation for excellence in teaching and research, as well as strong links with industry. This industrial CASE studentship is offered in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The planned research forms part of a larger programme that is expected to play a significant role in shaping future JLR diesel engine development.
Applicants should have an excellent technical background with a minimum high upper-second class (or overseas equivalent) Bachelorâs degree in engineering or mathematics. Some prior knowledge and training in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods is considered essential. Experience of STAR-CD or STAR-CCM+ is desirable. The successful candidate will be highly proficient in both written and spoken English and will possess excellent presentation and communication skills. Demonstrated ability of independent research and contribution to scientific publications is highly valued. Note that the successful candidate will be required to spend some time training at Jaguar Land Roverâs Whitely Engineering Centre, a full, clean driving licence is therefore considered advantageous.
The Studentship will be offered for the duration of three and a half years and will cover university tuition fees and a competitive tax-free stipend (currently £13,726 for the 2013-14 academic year).
