Applications are invited for a 1+3 ESRC studentship with the Manchester Institute for Innovation Research in the Alliance Manchester Business School at The University of Manchester under the supervision of Professor Philip Shapira and Dr Abdullah Gök. This CASE PhD studentship, in a partnership with Croda International plc, will undertake research on new responsible business models and strategies that are applicable to companies engaged in commercialising synthetic biology. This will involve understanding and anticipating market, public, governance, and societal concerns associated with particular synthetic biology applications, considering potential new responsible business models, and assessing strategies for addressing challenges posed by integrating greater openness, transparency, and societal considerations into business innovation processes. Students who are interested in this topic and with a first degree from a variety of disciplines including natural science, engineering, or social sciences are encouraged to apply. Postgraduate training and preparation in innovation management, responsible research and innovation, and policy will be provided through the Master of Research (MRes) Programme at the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS). Advanced PhD research training will be provided through the AMBS Doctoral Programme in Business and Management.
