The School of Law at the University of Leeds invites applications from prospective PhD students for up to four full-time or part-time fully funded scholarships commencing October 2014.
Two of these scholarships are funded by the ESRC, for which we invite applications in the broad fields of socio-legal studies and/or criminology. Applications may be for a 1+3 award (in which students undertake a Masters training programme) or a +3 award.
In addition, we invite applications for two AHRC funded PhD opportunities in doctrinal, theoretical, empirical, or comparative research studies that are focused on the content or procedures of the law.
These scholarships are offered respectively by the (ESRC) White Rose Doctoral Training Centre in the Social Sciences and the (AHRC) White Rose College of Arts and Humanities. Both these collaborations of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York, are internationally recognised as leading training centres for PhD researchers. They offer highly prestigious opportunities for PhD students to join a leading law school and become part of a vibrant research community with excellent training and networking opportunities across the region. More information is available at: http://wrdtc.ac.uk/ and http://www.ahrc.ac.uk/
Applicants for ESRC funded 1+3 awards are expected to have achieved an Upper Second Class honours (2:1) degree in any of the social science subjects including law at undergraduate level or above or to be currently completing the final year. Applicants for ESRC and AHRC funded +3 awards are expected to have gained a strong degree at Masters level in a social science subject or law respectively.
ESRC and AHRC studentships are open to UK and EU citizens. Maintenance grants for studentships in 2014/15 will be paid at the relevant rates of the funding councils, (£13,726 for 2013/14).
Application is a two part process. All applicants must have applied to study for a PhD at the School of Law by no later than 20th January, 2014. In addition, scholarship applications must be submitted to the School for ESRC applications and to the White Rose College of Arts and Humanities for AHRC applications by no later than 3rd February, 2014.
