The Faculty has a history of exciting and successful applied research. Located in modern laboratories in the county town of Stafford and in the City of Stoke-on-Trent, the Faculty has 150 academic staff, including fourteen full professors. It currently has 71 PhD students. It has very strong international links and active projects with a whole range of industry partners. The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise rated a significant part of its research as world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised. Â
As part of a significant expansion in its research, the Faculty is advertising 30 fullâfeesâplus scholarships. Each scholarship covers full tuition fees. It does not include living expenses. We are looking for individuals who want their research to impact in practical application, who want to contribute to the delivery of our undergraduate programmes, and who want to work with leading-edge staff.Â
Research project areas: The scholarships are either for pre-specified projects or for projects which may be negotiated within the themes listed below.

Applicants should possess at least an upper-second class degree at bachelor's level (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant area. A master's degree, at a merit or higher grade, will be an added advantage. Applicants without the criteria above but with extensive relevant knowledge and substantial professional experience will also be considered.
The willingness to teach is essential as is excellent English. English language proficiency which meets UKBA requirements is essential for non-EU applicants.
