This scholarship is available for entry in October 2013 We currently have fully-funded EPSRC Studentships available for our four-year *PhD programmes within the Life Sciences Interface Doctoral Training Centre, the Systems Biology Doctoral Training Centre and the Systems Approaches to Biomedical Science Industrial Doctorate Centre. The interdisciplinary nature of our programmes mean that supervisors are drawn from a multitude of departments across the University and cover mathematical and computational biology, bioinformatics, biological physics, medical imaging, drug discovery, genomic epidemiology and systems biology. The choice of PhD project is not made until after the completion of two terms of taught modules covering the breadth of scientific knowledge and techniques needed to carry out successful research, followed by two 10 week research projects with prospective PhD supervisors, situated within groups across the University. The major advantage of this is that the student is then empowered to make a fully informed choice of substantive research project. All students are given the opportunity to develop core skills in mathematical and computational modelling, biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, data analysis and scientific communication, and to gain hands-on experience in modern laboratory techniques, often experiencing research areas, supervisors, industrial settings, research groups and academic thought that may be completely new to them. We welcome applications from students who hold, or are on target to achieve a good degree in mathematics, computing or a physical or life sciences subject. Full studentships are available to home students and fees-only studentships are available to EU students (EPSRC eligibility criteria apply) for the forthcoming academic year. * known in Oxford as a DPhil Closing date: 19th April 2013 Full details of the programmes and information on how to apply can be found at: http://www.dtc.ox.ac.uk or by e-mailing dtcenquiries@dtc.ox.ac.uk
