Eligibility: UK/EU/International
Deadline: 18 February 2013
Social Sciences Faculty Research PhD Studentships are offered to prospective candidates from the academic year 2013/14.
The Studentships will be available under the Scheme to applicants who, in their research proposal, can clearly demonstrate academic excellence in areas relevant to the strategic interests of the School of Social Work.
Please see our Social Work Research Areas for more details, and our Academic Profiles for the research interests of individual members of staff.
Applications are welcome in all our areas of research. We particularly encourage applications in the following areas, but if your research interest is not mentioned here, please contact the postgraduate admissions tutor, Dr Jonathan Dickens, for further discussion:
The Studentships cover tuition fees (UK/EU rates), a tax-free maintenance grant (currently £13,590 per year), and a research training support grant. International students are welcome to apply but must be able to pay the difference between UK/EU fees and international fees.
Applicants are invited from suitably qualified graduates. Candidates should hold, or expect to hold, a minimum of at least a 2.1 degree and a Research Masters degree or equivalent. (If you do not have a Research Masters or equivalent, you may be interested in UEAâs MRes in Social Sciences Research Methods. Candidates may be asked to participate in an interview, which could take place via telephone or Skype as part of the selection process. EU and International applicants may be required to provide evidence of competence in the English Language.
To be considered for this award, you should make an application for admission to an MPhil/PhD in the normal manner, but you should indicate the intention to be considered for an open studentship under the Postgraduate Studentships Scheme. Please contact either, the postgraduate admissions tutor, Dr Jonathan Dickens, or your potential supervisor to discuss and develop the best possible proposal and application.
To discuss the application process, please contact the Postgraduate Research Office:
