The South, West & Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (SWW DTP) is a collaboration of eight leading research universities and partners from the creative economy, working together to develop the arts and humanities researchers of the future.

It is offering up to 50 fully-funded PhD studentships for entry in September 2014.

How to apply and eligibility

Applicants should have achieved at least a 2:1 or equivalent in an undergraduate degree and be able to demonstrate the highest potential for research. This may be through a Master's qualification – completed or currently underway – or through alternative evidence of aptitude for research. The studentship will cover a stipend at the standard Research Council rate, currently £13,726 per annum for 2013-2014, and tuition fees at the UK/EU rate for students who meet the residency requirements outlined by the AHRC. Studentship terms will be tailored to individual needs and may cover periods of pre-doctoral training and external placements. Students from EU countries who do not meet the residency requirements may still be eligible for a fees-only award. Online applications are welcomed until 21 February 2014.

The South, West & Wales DTP Programme

Funded by the AHRC, the SWW DTP will recruit and train over 200 doctoral students. Partners have achieved international excellence across the humanities, languages and creative arts, with sector-leading profiles in Archaeology, English, History, Philosophy, Drama, Music, European studies, Celtic studies, Italian and Russian.

The consortium enables students to develop their PhD project with access to the best supervisory expertise and research training, drawn from the exceptionally rich resources of the eight universities. DTP students will follow a unique development programme, The Professional Arts & Humanities Researcher, a bespoke graduate skills training programme, developing research and transferable skills linked to academic progression, and personal and professional development. This programme offers students unrivalled access to prestige organisations such as BBC Drama (Cardiff), BBC Factual (Bristol), English Heritage, the National Library of Wales, the National Trust and the Welsh National Opera.

The SWW DTP follows a three-year PhD model.
