PSY01:

Development and Psychometric Validation of a Measure of Ambivalent Homonegativity towards Sexual Minority Men and Women

As a research student, you will be working on a PhD project examining attitude ambivalence towards lesbian, gay and bisexual men and women among heterosexual people. Attitude ambivalence is defined as a psychological state in which, to a degree, an individual holds both positive and negative evaluations and responses of a particular attitude object (Conner & Sparks, 2002; Glick & Fiske, 1996). The aim of this research is to develop attitude ambivalence theory to incorporate attitudes towards sexual minorities and will ultimately result in the production a psychometric measure of ambivalent homonegativity.
The applicant should have a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in Psychology. Relevant postgraduate qualifications and/or research experience would be advantageous. Some experience of conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research is desirable. Knowledge of issues relating to the psychology of attitudes or research involving sexual minority men and women would be beneficial.

The first supervisor for this research project will be Dr Daragh McDermott (http://www.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/faculties/fst/departments/psychology/staff/dr_daragh_mcdermott.html). For further details contact him at daragh.mcdermott@anglia.ac.uk
