About the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship is funded by the Japanese government and other world bank member countries. The programs provide opportunities for graduate and postgraduate studies leading to masters’ and doctoral degrees in development-related fields for mid-career professionals and researchers. The intention of the award is contribute to institutional capacity building as well as to individual development. Recipients of World Bank scholarships and fellowships commit to return to their home countries to apply their increased expertise and technical knowledge to benefit their countries. Eligibility requirements for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship
- Like other developing countries scholarships , this scholarship is exclusively from students from developing countries
- Interested students can study only at preferred master’s programs and partner master’s programs associated with this scholarship. Please see the links below
- You must not be a dual citizen of any developed country,
- You cannot hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) earned before 2013,
- You must be under 45 years old on the Application Deadline date, and have at least 3 years of recent development-related experience since earning a Bachelor’s degree.
- Above ally, you must commit to returning home to your country on graduation in order to use your enhanced knowledge and skills towards your community’s, country’s, or region’s development
- economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two-way air travel, developing country national scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip;
- tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance usually obtained through the university. Please note all JJ/WBGSP partner and preferred masters programs are 2 years or less and the scholarship covers the duration of the program;
- a monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books, while you are studying at the preferred masters program. The amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country.
- VISA application(s) costs;
- expenses to bring and/or support a scholar's family members;
- extra-curricular courses or training;
- language training not provided by the graduate program;
- additional travel during the course of the study program;
- expenses related to research, supplementary educational materials, field trips, participation in workshops/seminars, or internships; and
- educational equipment such as computers.
