Lane Doctoral Scholarships In Theology

The Scholarships

The School of Theology at Mater Dei Institute of Education, Dublin, is pleased to announce two PhD Scholarships in Theology, to commence in October 2013. These scholarships are funded by the Mater Dei Educational and Research Trust to honour the longstanding contribution of Dr. Dermot A. Lane to Mater Dei Institute and to the field of Theology, and to mark his retirement as President of the Institute.

The scholarships will be awarded through a competitive process and shortlisted candidates will be interviewed. The academic requirements for these scholarships are a good first degree (at least, Second Class Honours, Grade I, or its equivalent) in Theology or a related discipline and a Masters Degree in Theology (at least, Second Class Honours, Grade I, or its equivalent).

Each scholarship is valued at €51,000 in total. Recipients, as registered full-time research students of the Institute, will receive €17,000 per annum for three years, covering fees annually (approximately €6,300) with the remaining monies as a bursary (up to approximately €10,700 per year). This arrangement extends to both EU and non-EU students. Recipients will be required to be resident in Ireland for the duration of the scholarship and maintain an actual presence in Mater Dei Institute, with the exception of approved periods of training or research at other institutions in Ireland or elsewhere. Please note that the Lane Doctoral Scholarships are not open to existing research students, only to new applicants.
