Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment
The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (MEMS) is pleased to offer an Oxford Brookes University 150th Anniversary Scholarship for an MPhil/PhD research. The scholarship is to be awarded to an outstanding candidate with ability to carry out mechanical properties modelling and design using advanced metallic composites for novel applications in aerospace, automotive and power generation sectors.
MEMS at Oxford Brookes has an excellent national and international reputation in Mechanical, Automotive and Motorsports Engineering and provides a lively and dynamic environment for any aspiring researcher. The three main research themes in the department are Sustainable Engineering and Innovation (SEI), Advanced Engines, Propulsion and Vehicles (AEPV), and Simulation, Modelling and Systems Integration (SMSI) http://mems.brookes.ac.uk/research/index.html. SEI covers sustainable mobility, closed loop manufacturing, materials and joining, whole life energy analysis and applications of low carbon solutions and materials. AEPV focusses on combustion and fuels, particulate emissions and assessment, powertrain simulation and performance evaluation, CFD of engine processes, and design and development of high performance engines. SMSI covers applied mathematics and statistics, electronics, biomedical imaging and instrumentation, risk and reliability, system dynamics, and stress and materials.
The conditions of the award are that the candidate:
 (i) agrees to act as an ambassador at Departmental open days and applicant days
(ii) act as a role model for future applicants, e.g. agree to a profile in the Department pamphlet describing their experience as a research student.
Eligibility: The Scholarship is open to International and Home / EU nationals. The successful candidate will receive £14,000 studentship per annum and the University will at its discretion pay the fees. The Scholarship will be paid in four instalments. The scholarship may be withdrawn at any time for unsatisfactory performance.
