Qualification type: MPhil and PhD Funding for: UK students, EU students Funding amount: Fully funded and fees only The University of Winchester is seeking talented, enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to become part of our expanding and vibrant postgraduate research community. We have already invested significant funding in a wide portfolio of disciplines and are offering three additional opportunities within the following centres: Winchester Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace Full-time three year fully-funded PhD position in the areas of reconciliation and religious peace-building, and particularly in the areas of Middle Eastern approaches to reconciliation (with particular reference to Syria); Community reconciliation – the relationship between international peace-building and social cohesion in divided communities in the UK; Monitoring and evaluation in religious peace-building; Religious peace-building and policy formation. Centre for Information Rights Full-time three year fees-only PhD position (in collaboration with the Office for National Statistics). With a specific focus on practice-based research, this is an exciting opportunity to work in an area of academia which has the potential to make a significant and tangible impact on the on-going debate about the involvement of Government in Big Data. Students will have the opportunity to work with the ONS Big Data team on an advisory basis. Project proposals are particularly welcomed on Questions involving Big Data; Government and the State; Legal, ethical and public perception issues; Controversial types of data mining (such as use of Twitter data and mobile phone data). Department of Sport and Exercise Full-time one year fully funded MPhil position (in collaboration with the Wessex Knee Research Group). The project involves a biomechanical study into the use of femoral head allografts as a graft material in high tibial osteotomy (HTO). The project will require the student to research, design, implement and produce a high-calibre, orthopedically relevant study under the supervision of the University of Winchester and the Wessex Knee Research Group. Applicants will normally have a track record of high academic achievement demonstrated by a first class or high upper second undergraduate honours degree and/or a master’s degree (or equivalent) and supported by two academic references. The ability to work independently, with the support of a supervisory team, and the enthusiasm to contribute to a vibrant and stimulating research environment are essential.
