About the award
The College of Social Sciences and International Studies at Exeter is delighted to offer a fully funded studentship for a Home / EU student studying for an MPhil / PhD programme in the Exeter Centre for the Study of the Life Sciences (EGENIS).
Egenis has a strongly interdisciplinary culture, encompassing a range of perspectives from social science, biology, history and philosophy.? The successful applicant will work with Dr Sabina Leonelli and will be connected with her ERC project entitled ?The Epistemology of Data-Intensive Science? (www.datastudies.eu).
Topics of particular relevance include open science and the ways in which scientific data are disseminated and processed today, or have been in the past; data production, dissemination and interpretation in model organism research (an interest in yeast, fungi or plant organisms will be particularly valued); epistemological, political, social and ethical issues to do with data processing in biology and biomedicine. A wide range of other topics in the philosophy, history and social studies of biology would be considered, as long as candidates make an argument for how they would fit in the ERC project.

Entry criteria and how to apply
The award will only be made to an applicant who goes on to enrol within the department of Sociology, Philosophy and Anthropology in September 2014. Awards are payable in instalments on enrolment and continued payment of the studentship is subject to satisfactory annual progression.
