MSc Studentships in Analytical Science

Applications are invited for 2013 entry to our masters course Analytical Science: Methods and Instrumental Techniques (AS:MIT) (http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/gstudy/postgraduatedegrees/as_mit/)

This course is a one year full-time degree programme composed of eight taught modules, one team research project, and an individual research project of 20 weeks. AS:MIT provides training in the latest developments in Instrumental Analytical Science, and will serve as an optimal preparation for a further career in either academia (Ph.D. studies) or industry.

The course is targeted at students who will go on to work in areas such as the life sciences (including pharmaceutical and environmental science), and materials sciences, and we invite applications from students with backgrounds in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Statistics and Maths. AS:MIT will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of analytical techniques and excellent practical skills, including the mathematical and statistical skills necessary for data processing and analysis.

The hands-on practical experience, with a range of equipment relevant to each module (see below), means that graduates from the course are prepared to work in any modern laboratory, since the skills they will have acquired are readily transferable between sub-disciplines.

Analytical Science is a major focus at Warwick, with the new EPSRC-funded interdisciplinary Warwick Centre for Analytical Science (WCAS) http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/wcas/ and major investments in infrastructure, instrumentation, and research personnel. Our 2013 AS:MIT students will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting research and training environment.

The course is delivered by internationally leading experts from the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Engineering, and the Life Sciences at Warwick, as well as visiting lecturers from companies such as Syngenta and Astra-Zeneca. AS:MIT forms part of the Warwick Interdisciplinary Science Programme (WISP) http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/wisp/. Staff and students have close links with Warwick University’s innovative interdisciplinary Centres, for example the Doctoral Training Centre “Molecular Organisation and Assembly in Cells” (MOAC) and the Centre for Systems Biology.

During your 5-month research project, in which you will work together with experienced researchers from either academia or industry, you will develop enhanced research and experimental skills that are directly applicable to Industrial and Research careers.
