Deadline: The closing date for applications is 31 January 2106 Interview date: Interviews will be held in week beginning 22nd February 2016 Eligibility: Home/EU/International Start date: April 2016 (at the latest) The Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies (OICPS) within the School of Arts at Oxford Brookes University is pleased to offer a three year full-time PhD studentship commencing in September 2016. The successful applicant will receive an annual bursary of £7,000 for three years (with no inflation increase), and fees will be paid by the University. The candidate will need to demonstrate that in addition to the studentship other funding is available for them to successfully complete the programme in full-time study. Area of research: Publishing Studies and Book History OICPS is the leader in the field of Publishing Studies and Book History, with staff carrying out interdisciplinary research in authorship studies, scholarly editing, publishing histories, contemporary publishing practice, and the digital text. Research links have been established with several other academic institutions across a range of disciplines and across national and international boundaries. In addition, knowledge-transfer links have been established with the creative industries on local, national, and international levels – in particular with the Publishing industry and with national museums. In 2015 OICPS opened Europe’s first Confucius Institute with a focus on publishing. Regular lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences in Publishing Studies and Book History are carried out under the auspices of OICPS and its Print Culture Research Group, which present the work in progress of leading researchers in the fields of Publishing Studies, Book History and the Digital Humanities. Proposals are invited for research in following areas for which our staff have expertise: The Culture and History of Publishing Late nineteenth-, twentieth- and twenty-first-century print culture, publishing and book history, including, but not limited to war and the book trade, colonial and post-colonial publishing, periodical publishing International, Strategy, Policy and Development Studies of contemporary publishing in local, regional and national contexts, issues of development and publishing in and outside the UK including Africa, China, and Europe The successful candidate will be expected to carry out their research whilst resident in Oxford and to take part in the life of OICPS. They will assist with organising seminars and conferences, and there will be opportunities for teaching on the undergraduate and MA Publishing programmes.
