Part-funded PhD Teaching Studentship Criminology

Introduction:

The Centre for Criminal Justice and Criminology atSwansea University invites applications for a 4 year (to include research training) fees-only PhD studentship. 

About the project:

The Centre promotes and conducts criminal justice and criminological research of international significance in Wales and other member States of the European Community. Disseminating criminal justice and criminological research as well as policy and practice knowledge across Europe, the Centre has developed an inter-disciplinary and inter-collegiate approach to the conduct of research. Our research is recognised as internationally excellent and world leading; receiving the highest rating in our UoA in Wales in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. The Centre continues to grow in areas of strategic importance with staff research active in the areas of sex work, community-based supervision, offender management, cyber-terrorism, youth justice policy and practice, substance use, and sex offender policy and treatment.

We strive to provide an environment in which academic and intellectual development flourishes and support a vibrant and innovative postgraduate research culture. Our research students are an integral part of the Centre which attracts top students who seek to pursue a career in academia, as well as those who have years of experience in industry and public services who wish to take their career to a new level.

Criminology at Swansea University has won a coveted place in the national network of training centres accredited by the ESRC as part of the Wales Doctoral Training Centre, which was established to promote excellence in postgraduate training in Wales. In Criminology at Swansea you will be offered a mix of generic research training (in, for example, qualitative and quantitative methods) and subject specific research training, where we focus on applying research methods to Criminological enquiry.

This studentship is for full-time study from 1st October 2013 and will involve a contribution to the teaching of undergraduate Criminology programmes.

Candidate eligibility:

The ideal candidate is expected to hold a first class / upper second class honours degree which is relevant to criminology or a related social science discipline.

Due to funding restrictions, only UK/EU students are eligible to apply. 

Studentship value:

The studentship will cover UK/EU tuition fees (currently £3930) for 4 years.
