Industry Sponsored PhD Studentships in Detector Development for Space Science and Particle Physics
Based in Milton Keynes
Full-time, 3 year PhD studentships available throughout 2013
The e2v Centre for Electronic Imaging (CEI) at The Open University campus in Milton Keynes is currently able to offer full-time PhD CASE studentships funded jointly by industry (e2v) and the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
Studentships cover the fields of detector development for astronomy, planetary science and particle physics, involving CCD and CMOS detectors, fundamental solid-state physics and electronic engineering.
The Co-operative Awards in Science and Engineering (CASE) studentships are designed to give students experience outside a purely academic environment through joint supervision by The Open University and e2v technologies. This includes guidance from an experienced engineer from e2v.
Students completing the PhD training possess valuable transferable skills and the expertise gained leads to successful careers within industry, academic research and space agencies (ESA, NASA, JAXA).
Informal enquiries regarding projects are encouraged (see contact details below).
Entry Requirements:
Successful applicants will have, or be expecting, a good honours degree in physics, electronics engineering or a related subject.
