In the context of the ongoing collaboration between the Data Science Centre Eindhoven (DSC/e) and Philips, we are looking for a candidate with a strong background in visualization, computer graphics, and/or human computer interaction for the PhD position -Visual Analytics for Healthcare Workflows.
Context
The Data Science Centre Eindhoven (DSC/e) is TU/es response to the growing volume and importance of data and the need for data & process scientists (http://www.tue.nl/dsce/). The DSC/e has recently started a long-term cooperation with Philips Research Eindhoven on data science, and as a first concrete action, 18 PhD students are being hired. These students will form a strong research community, which works on scientific and industrial challenges together with researchers from the TU/e and Philips. This vacancy is for the PhD position "Visual Analytics for Healthcare Workflows, which is part of the "Optimizing Healthcare Workflows" theme.
Visual Analytics
The PhD will be appointed at the TU/e as a member of the VIS group, but also spend substantial time within Philips and EIT co-location center at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. The VIS group is one of the leading groups in information visualization, focussing on getting insight in large amounts of abstract data, typically combinations of networks, hierarchies and multi-variate data, with spatial or dynamic aspects. Visual analytics involves the integration of methods from data mining and visualization, aiming to combine the strengths of these approaches. In this project we closely cooperate with the AIS group of TU/e, which is the leading group in process mining.
PhD position Visual Analytics for Healthcare Workflows
Medical examinations, such as pathology and radiology, involve complex workflows. This project aims to obtain insight in these workflows, in order to understand what goes well and what can be improved, using a visual analytics approach, where automated processing and interactive visual exploration are tightly integrated. The project will be carried out In close cooperation with Philips and the AIS group of TU/e. Based on real-world use cases and data sets, new methods and techniques are developed that provide insight in the raw data, as well as in derived workflows. Of particular interest is the visualization of multiple workflows, to facilitate understanding the relation of these workflows with aspects like the hospital, department, and time. These new methods are evaluated in close cooperation with research partners from Philips and domain experts.
