We have several new PhD positions available and would welcome applications from well qualified students with a good first degree (preferably to Masters level) in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics and a keen interest in offshore / coastal engineering. A sound background in fluid mechanics is essential, but specialist knowledge of waves or wave loading is not. Due to funding restrictions funding is only available for UK or EU citizens. The PhD topics all relate to the offshore oil and gas industry and are in the following areas:
The proposed topics all involve close links with industry and it is expected that successful applicants will receive close academic supervision coupled with strong industrial input. The projects will involve numerical simulations and experimental measurements. As such candidates should have strong analytical and numerical capabilities. The studies will be jointly supervised by Prof. Chris Swan and Dr Marios Christou. The posts will be held open until suitable candidates are identified; the intention being to commence the projects at the earliest opportunity.
