Applications are invited for one fully funded 3 year PhD position that is available as soon as possible and with a starting date of 1 October 2014 at the latest. The projects are available to UK and EU students who have a strong interest in fluid dynamics and knowledge of CFD. The project will develop state-of-the-art CFD models of particulate density driven flow to model sediment driven turbdity currents in meandering channel systems.

This project is linked to a studentship within the School of Earth and Environment, where experimental models will be used to investigate meandering flow processes and provide data for numerical model validation. Please see the following links for further information:

The successful applicant will have, or be expecting, a First or Upper Second Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) in engineering or physical sciences. Further, the successful applicant will be highly numerate with prior experience in mathematical modeling and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics. An interest in geophysics, especially petroleum engineering, would be desirable. Whilst supervisors in the School of Process, Environmental and Materials Engineering and the School of Earth and Environment will support the successful applicant he/she will be keen to work independently to develop novel scientific ideas.
