PhD positions are available in the research group of Professor M.J. Rosseinsky FRS (http://www.liv.ac.uk/chemistry/staff/matthew-rosseinsky/). Illustrative project area is given below:
You will develop new ionically conducting materials to transport lithium and oxide ions for next-generation battery and solid oxide fuel/electrolysis cell applications. These technologies are important in the decarbonisation of energy supply. The project involves synthesis of solids, transport and electrochemical measurements and structural measurements. There is also the opportunity to carry out modeling studies.
The stipend is (£13,726) for 2013/14.  Due to funding, the Graduate Teaching Assistantship positions (GTA) are open to UK/EU citizens only. EU students who have not been resident in the UK for the last three years proceeding the start of their studentship are only eligible for a fees-only award. International students are not eligible for any funding through a GTA. Candidates will have at least an upper second class honours degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science. All the projects take place in a large interdisciplinary group with extensive international collaborations and involve close interaction between synthesis, measurement and computation.
