The University of Nottinghamâs Faculty of Engineering is one of the premier engineering faculties in the UK. The Faculty conducts research that has been recognised by the last Research Assessment Exercise as being world-leading or internationally excellent, placing Nottingham in the UKâs top five universities for engineering. Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD studentship (3 years) in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham.
The post is jointly funded by the University of Nottingham and an international automotive manufacturer. The student will work under the supervision of Dr Glyn Lawson. Dr Lawson has significant expertise in the human factors of advanced technologies in design and manufacturing applications. The studentship will focus on understanding trust in the virtual reality technologies being used within the automotive design process. Travel to the automotive partnerâs design and engineering centre in the midlands will be an important part of the project.
Students should have research interests in one or more of the following areas:
Students should have, or expect to obtain, a first-class or good 2:1 honours degree or MSc in human factors / ergonomics, product design, engineering, or a related subject.
The studentship will cover PhD tuition fees and a tax free stipend for three years (£13,726 for the 2013-14 academic year) for UK/EU students, due to funding restrictions. An additional £2000 a year may be awarded for students with a 1st class degree / MSc Distinction from a UK Russell Group University or equivalent. The studentship is expected to start in September/October 2013.
