PhD Scholarship: Amos Bursary Scheme Evaluation

A unique opportunity exists for a fully funded PhD student to commence studies in October 2013 at Imperial College London. The focus of this Scholarship will be an evaluation of the Amos Bursary Scheme. The scheme was established in 2009 to assist academically able British young men from inner city schools and with family connections to Africa and the Caribbean to realise their full potential. http://www.amosbursary.org.uk/

The fully funded scholarship offer includes:

  • Funding for fees at UK/EU rates for 4 years full-time or 5 years part-time study  (Due to funding restrictions International students would need to self-fund the difference between UK/EU and International fees)
  • A stipend of £20k per annum for up to 3.5 years
  • Access to a programme of career development and cohort activities delivered by a combination of their host department and the Graduate School.
  • Access to additional financial support for conference attendance to enable valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration with comparable researcher.

Eligibility

  • Applications are accepted from talented candidates from Imperial College London, the UK and worldwide. There are no restrictions on nationality.
  • Candidates must meet the College’s admission requirements and hold a Master’s qualifications and be able to provide evidence of high performance. Candidates with degrees from overseas institutions are strongly urged to determine if their scores/grades are equivalent to the relevant eligibility criteria.
  • Candidates must demonstrate outstanding potential and be capable of PhD completion within 4years full-time or 5 years part-time
  • Candidates whose first language is not English must provide evidence of an IELTS score, of at least 6.5 with no component below 6

Applications are made online through the College embark system before the deadline. If you have not already done so, please make sure that you upload your Undergraduate and Postgraduate transcripts, a research statement and reference information.

Once you have been issued with a College ID number, please email the PhD Admissions team (aoeaoe@doc.ic.ac.uk) with the following information: College ID, Date of Application.

Closing date: 16 August 2013.

Interviews will take place on the 17 or 18 September 2013.  

Candidates selected for interview will be expected to provide a 5 minute presentation focusing on a previous project or research study that they have undertake and separately to discuss their research proposal for the Amos evaluation study. Candidates selected for interview who live abroad may, if they wish, undertake their interview via teleconferencing.
