Applications are invited for a full-time, three year PhD studentship in the Clean Energies cluster based in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Queenâs University Belfast. The studentship offers a stipend of £13,726 per annum (tax free) and covers fees at the UK/EU student rate (£3,900). International students from outside the EU may apply and additional fees at the international student rate can be negotiated.
The studentship is focused on modelling and control of a waste heat recovery system for an internal combustion engine. The successful candidate will develop a model, control algorithms and a real time control system to optimise the operation of the waste heat recovery system to increase the efficiency of the engine in both simulation and real time experiment.
Applicants for this studentship should have or expect to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree or equivalent, in Mechanical, Electronic or Mechatronics and Control Engineering, experience of programming (preferable in Labview and Matlab, but not essential) and implementation of real time control systems, modelling and control algorithms. A Masterâs degree in a relevant subjects or post graduate industrial experience in a relevant area would be advantageous but are not essential.
The successful candidate is expected to travel to visit company sites, present at international conferences and to write high quality journal papers.
