To start: February 2014
Award:
One full-time award for 3 years funding to undertake a PhD only. The award is funded by the Medical Research Council, and the IoP Excellence programme.
Project:
Voice hearing occurs in both the clinical and non-clinical populations, and how people respond to their voices may partly determine how distressing or interfering this experience is. Mindful responding (noticing and accepting voices without attempting to avoid or struggle with the experience) may be associated with better coping, and less interference to everyday functioning. A series of 3 studies is proposed in order to better understand the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic benefit of mindfulness for distressing voices in psychosis.
Entry requirements:
Applicants should have (or be expected to obtain) a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree in psychology and be eligible for home fee status. If applicants already possess (or expect to obtain) a research-based MSc degree, a merit or distinction level is required.
Award type and eligibility
Due to funding restrictions the MRC studentships cover course fees (Home/EU rate) for the PhD; a stipend (approx. £16,000 per year) and a contribution towards research costs, training and conference attendance.Â
Non-UK EU applicants are eligible for a full award. Â
See full MRC eligibility criteria.
