We invite applications for a 4-year PhD studentship to work in the Reisner group's Christian Doppler Laboratory on a project which will focus on developing a chemical process that captures and stores the energy from sunlight in a chemical fuel by a process known as artificial photosynthesis. The inexpensive capture and storage of the energy in abundant sunlight in the form of a renewable fuel is of major scientific and economic interest to overcome our dependence on fossil fuels.
The PhD student will work in a collaborative, international and multi-disciplinary research environment ranging from synthetic molecular and materials chemistry to spectroscopy, electrochemistry, photo-catalysis and engineering. Further information about the work of the Reisner group and the Christian Doppler Laboratory (including a list of research articles) is available at: http://www-reisner.ch.cam.ac.uk/
Applicants should have (or expect to obtain) the equivalent of a UK first-class honours degree (and preferably a Masters degree) in a scientific discipline that is relevant to the project. The studentship will cover an annual maintenance grant and tuition fees at the Home/EU rate. Non-EU nationals can be considered only if they can cover the differential for overseas tuition fees.
Applicants should send by email a cover letter, CV, detailed academic transcript and the contact details for two professional referees to Mrs Inger Lomax, Department of Chemistry (email: pa-reisner@ch.cam.ac.uk).Â
