Full EPSRC PhD studentship with industrial top-up

The project aims to lay the foundations for the further development and exploitation of a radically new sensing and imaging modality, with its first application in dental care. The targeted methodology is sensing and fast tomography imaging, with no moving parts. It is based on optical fibre delivery, which can ultimately be deployed intra-orally as miniature tomographs employing non-ionising terahertz (T-ray) radiation.Â
Qualifications applicants should have/expected to receive:Â
Applicants should be educated to at least BEng (Hons) level with a 2:1 (upper second or equivalent) in natural sciences or engineering, with good understanding of optics and good experimental skills. Good communication skills (oral and written) in English are also required.Â
Amount of funding available and eligibility:Â
This is a fully funded Industrial CASE Studentship (fees and stipend), subject to EPSRC requirements for eligibility: http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/skills/students/help/Pages/eligibility.aspx. Due to funding restrictions, the full studentship is only available to students from the UK or EU who have been normally resident in the UK for at least 3 years. The Studentship is available for 3.5 years, covering full tuition fees and a stipend with an industrial top-up. The top-up is in addition to the EPSRC minimum Engineering Doctorate stipend (currently £15,226 p.a. tax-free). Candidates are encouraged to check their tax-free status with their local Inland Revenue office.Â
