Project description
The School is pleased to offer one funded studentship for doctoral research to begin in November 2013, to explore the housing needs of one of the fastest-growing groups in the UK housing market. You will be working in a rich research environment to explore the current housing and socio-economic circumstances of older people in the UK. It also offers opportunities for broader professional development through placements with the sponsor organisation, under the supervision of Rose Gilroy and Professor Adam Sharr. Churchill Retirement Living is a developer specialising in housing for the over 50s.
For a full description of the studentship please see the School of School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape's website.
Value of the award and eligibility
This studentship is offered for a three year period. The total award value is in the form of a tax-free bursary of £15,000 p.a. and this will cover fees, living costs, and some research expenses.
Please note: International students are eligible to apply for the award, however, a successful non-EU applicant will therefore have a lower stipend for living costs because of their substantially higher fees. Please check the level of fees on the online postgraduate prospectus.
Person specification
Applicants are expected to have a background in architectural design and interests in sociology and social policy planning. They must possess a good honours degree (first-class or upper-second-class). An additional qualification at Master's level is preferred. Excellent organisational and communication skills are required. An open attitude to interdisciplinary research is essential.
How to apply
To apply you must send: a covering letter; a brief, edited portfolio of design work; a CV; and the names of two academic referees by e-mail to Marian Kyte, Postgraduate Research Secretary (marian.kyte@ncl.ac.uk). Please indicate clearly the Studentship reference number APL16 in your letter/email header. You do not at this stage need to apply through the Universityâs online postgraduate application form.
