PROJECT TITLE: CFD and Thermo-Mechanical Modelling
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to develop novel thermo-mechanical modeling methods within the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre (UTC) for Thermo-Fluid Systems at the University of Surrey.
The Thermo-Fluid Systems UTC has been actively involved in the development of thermo-mechanical modeling combining the use of finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for Rolls-Royce plc. The aim of this project is to develop improved and faster methods that can be used earlier in the design process with the aim of optimizing engine design.
The successful candidate will therefore be expected to carry out fundamental research in the field of CFD and thermal modeling, and then apply these methods to gas turbine design.
Students interested in this project should have a good first degree in a relevant field, should be highly motivated, and have an aptitude for both programming and numerical work.
FUNDING NOTES
A full studentship (payment of tuition fees and a stipend of approximately £19,000 pa) is available for this project. The studentship is open to overseas applicants with full payment of tuition fees but with a reduced stipend. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Early application is therefore highly encouraged.
