The Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is one of the largest and most successful engineering departments in the UK and boasts an established reputation for excellence in teaching and research, as well as strong links with industry.
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to work on the development of numerical modelling techniques for the prediction of flows with evolving multi-material interfaces. Many diverse engineering and physical problems involve mathematical modelling techniques of dynamic interaction between domains composed of different materials e.g. solid/gas in combustion of solids or water/air interaction in oceans. The surfaces separating different materials: solids, gases or fluids i.e. multi-material interfaces can evolve in time. The project is funded by the UK defence sector. The work will involve close collaboration with scientists from the funding institution and a form of security check will be required; therefore, due to these requirements this studentship is suitable only for UK citizens.
Prospective candidates will have a good honours degree (1st or 2:1) in Numerical Methods, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Fluid Mechanics or other related disciplines. Full training will be provided.
This fully funded PhD studentship provides a living allowance at the rate of up to £17,000 p.a. tax free, and all fees are paid. The duration of the project is three years.
Please apply through the Apply link below.
Applicants seeking additional information are invited to contact Dr Joanna Szmelter (e-mail j.szmelter@lboro.ac.uk ).
