Two doctoral positions are available from February 2014 in a research team examining the cultural history of water in Central Asia. Projects enquiring into changing perceptions and uses of water will examine a wide range of materials, including archaeological, historical and ethnographic evidence. Work on water uses in nomadic and semi-nomadic areas, along the Naryn/Syr Darya or in the Issyk-Kul region is particularly encouraged, as are projects going beyond the study of irrigation. Doctoral students will be co-supervised by Dr. Jeanne Féaux de la Croix and a further professor in the relevant discipline.
The research team will be associated with the new Collaborative Research Center (CRC 1070) âResourceCultures: Socio-cultural dynamics in the use of resourcesâ â at the University of Tübingen. As a member of the Excellence Initiative, the University of Tübingen is one of Germanyâs top-level research universities, with a broad spectrum of subjects based on a long tradition.
